Join us for a chat with Yalie Jordan Mechner, creator of the Prince of Persia game. He is visiting LA on his US book tour for Replay, his award-winning biographical graphic novel memoir, published March 19. Register via Eventbrite to get the address the day before the event.
Jordan writes: 'Replay interweaves the story of three generations of my family — including my dad's flight from Vienna as a Jewish child refugee in 1938-41 through Nazi-occupied Europe, and my grandfather's experience as a teenage Austrian soldier in World War I — with my own life story, from making my first games on an Apple II in the 1980s, to the modern console and film versions of Prince of Persia. In 2016, I moved from L.A. to France (for a new video game project) as an American with two teenage kids, reversing the journey the previous generation risked their lives to accomplish.
Since Replay's release last year in France, where it's received awards including the 2023 "Chateau de Cheverny" graphic novel prize, I've been eagerly counting down the months until I can share it with my English-speaking family and friends. I’ll be in New York, L.A., and San Francisco for the book launch.
